Worked at HM Naval Base (Devonport) that is the largest naval base in Western Europe, Devonport has been supporting the Royal Navy since 1691. The vast site covers more than 650 acres and has 15 dry docks, four miles of waterfront, 25 tidal berths and five basins.  The base employs 2,500 Service personnel and civilians, supports around 400 local firms. 

INTEGRATION AND TEST (I&T) SOLUTIONS ARCHITECTURE AND MANAGER

Sept 2018-Apr 2019

Lockheed Martin UK has been awarded a $1bn contract to deliver 245 turrets for the AJAX reconnaissance variant. 

Undertook the planning, execution and test tool development during the verification and validation phase of a specific sensitive products, harnesses and test equipment during a critical and time-sensitive phase of a major programme. 

ENTERPRISE TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE (INTEGRATION & TEST)

Dec 2017 - Sept 2018

NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), based in The Hague, acting as the principal Consultation, Command and Control (C3) deliverer and Communications and Information Systems (CIS) provider for NATO Headquarters, the NATO Command structure and NATO Agencies. 

Provided technical support to the one of the critical defence teams in terms of real-time and non-real-time system architectures and distributed interactive simulations. 

HUBBING /INTEROPERABILITY LEAD & SERVICE DESIGN ARCHITECT (CONTRACTOR)

June 2015-Nov 2017

• Initially contracted to help provide technical expertise in the areas of database (hub and spokes), data management and interoperability.

• Tasked to help write the Hewlett Packard (Systems Integrator) Request for Proposal (RFQ).

• Wrote the data/interoperability requirements, managed the change control on the whole proposal and the executive authored the document.

• Assigned to NSoIT(Deployed) programme as senior architect responsible for the creation of the Service Design Packs (MOD was moving from a Product Based Approach to a Service Based Approach), and wrote a series of Options Papers.
• Developed the High Level CORTISONE (Medical Information System) Architecture.

SAFETY, ENVIRONMENTAL & LEGISLATION MANAGER ( CONTRACTOR)

• Contracted to rescue a failing programme of works, effectively manage and resolve several client disputes and disagreements with regards to safety management on the Specialist Vehicle (SV) Programme.

• Supported the project through 4 critical design reviews, saving the company £50K.

• Recruited and trained my permanent replacement.

ENGINEERING DEPLOYMENT MANAGER (FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

Cobham plc is a leading global technology and services innovator, respected for providing solutions to the most challenging problems in aerospace and defence markets.  The company headquarters is based in Wimborne Minster, Dorset with various worldwide sites.

• Engaged to deliver a global business transformation programme, trained engineers worldwide in new engineering processes.

VARIOUS PROJECT /PROGRAMME MANAGER POSITIONS

• Seconded onto the programme to identify and resolve recurring programme-related points of failure and reduced contractual liabilities on the SV Scout armoured vehicle programme.

• Promoted into the Business Transformation team, managing external consultants

• Applied formal and disciplined Programme / Change Management to company ICT/Collaborative initiatives.

• Aligned delivery programmes to corporate culture & stakeholders for maximum effectiveness.

• Wrote business case recommending changes for senior management that resulted in the implementation of new business systems and generated savings of over £15m.

• Delivered a strategy paper to help make the organisation more innovative and collaborative.

• Seconded to manage The EDGE® (GDUK’s supplier-facing prototyping centre), providing partnership opportunities between GD UK and small & medium-sized enterprises, academia and customers, utilising prototyping, virtual, physical collaboration and R&D environments, and managing annual showcases.

• Formalised processes, work flowed activities, conducted active stakeholder management and established two very successful annual Joint Internal Research and Development (JIRAD) showcase events.

• Introduced over 20 new solutions into the military market including introducing waterproof paper into the UK military.

• Bid, planned, managed and executed all aspects of the BOWMAN Support Contract (post design services, repair and overhaul, supply/field support, updates, publications, test equipment), and delivered an asset tracking (linked to JAMES) and User Community Knowledgebase programmes.

• Created next generation military software uplift and health & usage monitoring systems (HUMS).

• Negotiated, developed and implemented support solutions, saving MoD millions of pounds.

• Recruited and trained a new team and focused the team on delivery.

• Re-focused efforts based on the installation schedule.

• Rationalised the number of design packages (winning an innovation award) and completed designs on time.

• Promoted to project manage an Installation, Delivery & Certification Programme on MoD A Platforms (Tanks).

• Executed all aspects on the BOWMAN tactical C4ISR integrated digital voice and data radio network systems, on over 160 complex frontline British Army fighting platforms (incl. CVR(T) Fleet).

• Company award achieved for a proposed Platform Rationalisation. Completed the rationalisation exercise that enhanced the capability of military platforms by optimising platform configurations.

• Recruited to project manage a failing state-of-the-art situation military awareness software / hardware (P-BISA) battlefield communications systems.

• Procurement cost of the supply and (initial) support phase for Bowman was approximately £1.9 billion and the acquisition cost of the whole project is £2.4 billion

RELEASE PROJECT MANAGER

• Recruited to successfully deliver telecommunications releases a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) Solution.

• Transferred onto a Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service (UMTS) Solution, reporting to Programme Manager.

• Managed worldwide teams remotely, delivered a UMTS Release.

PROJECT MANAGER

• DERA needed a soil mechanics expert to help deliver a specific work-package, recruited to deliver the trackway project reporting into the Programme Manager initially and then to the Technical Director.

• Tasked to generate alternatives to the current generation of trackway, conducted a literature survey to gather all the available information, consulted all the Subject Matter Experts that were available and developed a project plan.

• Undertook communications management, developed new tools and techniques, prototypes and iterations of the model.

• Presented a NATO technical paper at a conference in Turkey.

• After successful delivery seconded into MoD HQ responsible for Requirements Management.

• Responsible for adding XYZ technologies onto robotic vehicles.

• Appointed head of the future robotics programme, an international collaboration working with US Government Officials.

• Gave independent advice to a US Senator who asked for independent advice during trials.

MARKS & SPENCER

• Part-time warehouseman in both the Swansea and Cardiff stores every weekend and during my education holidays. Employed as the sole night watchman during the Swansea store refurbishment.
• Working under pressure, team working, leadership, problem solving and communication within the Retail Sector undertaking stock auditing, stock control, customer service management, security, recycling and general duties.

BRITISH COAL

• Sponsored to undertake primary research intended to investigate the circumstances and conditions which lead to the activation of geological faults when longwall panel extraction occurs in the vicinity of the fault. Two predictive techniques (linear finite element model and theoretical mathematical model) were developed, and they were used to predict movements collaborated through detailed three-dimensional ground surveys.
