Types of Skills
Skills involve sector and role knowledge (professional skills), thoughts, ideas and things (technical and/or cognitive skills) and/or people (Interpersonal or soft skills). Professional skills are generally industry based knowledge that people need to fulfil their roles. Cognitive skills are the core skills our brains use to think, read, learn, remember, reason and pay attention, that are then utilised together with our abilities and knowledge to perform specific tasks in our technical roles. Soft skills are the personal attributes that enable us to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people. Competencies are then used to structure the skills, knowledge and behaviours that lead to quantifiable varying levels of successful performance.
